Dawn, thank you very much for that nice comment...I have watched these wings open many times (daily, wind permitting) and each time I am also struck by how "bird-like" it seems...I thought of a phoenix rising from the ashes as it faces the rising sun...but your analogy is great as well...many attributes have been associated with this Santiago Calatrava building...

What a striking and dramatic photograph that enhances the airy mystery of this architectural wonder! Stunning work! Although it doesn't resemble it, the building puts me in mind of a unique school on one of the Dakota Sioux schools in South Dakota. Tiospa Zina Tribal School is built in the shape of an eagle to inspire the students with pride and interest in their traditional heritage. This outstanding composition certainly does the same for me!
